Study populations
Mexico, in 2016, had an estimated population of 123.1m with 27% under the age of 15 years and 11% over the age of 60 years. By 2050, Mexico will have aged considerably – with older people representing some 30% of the total population or 45m.
Alongside the ageing population, diabetes prevalence is increasing – with the most recent statistics reporting 11.5m people living with the condition rising in 2040 to 20.6m. There are an estimated 3.9m undiagnosed cases.
